For our out-of-town guests

If you are planning on bringing your horse to Jackson Hole, we would like to give you some information to help with your preparations.

Picture
The snow usually melts in the back country by July.  For the purposes of fishing, a way to see if the lakes have thawed in the back country is this Jackson Hole old-timers method: Within the town of Jackson is Snow King Mountain.  If the snow has completely melted off of Snow King, then the lakes have thawed.  You can check this by looking at the web cam of Snow King Mountain (keep in mind that it's not an exact science).

July - Aug is Jackson Hole's peak tourist season.  Lodging, stables, campgrounds, and farriers can be scarce. Plan way ahead and make appropriate reservations, even in campgrounds.

Hay must be certified through Teton County Weed and Pest.

Negative coggins certification is required.

Cell phone coverage is poor in the back country.

Grizzly and Wolf encounters are not rare.  Click on links below for information on food storage and other safety issues.
